How I help, in practice

The examples below are illustrative and anonymised. They show the kinds of challenges I help clients resolve.

Engineering & construction Illustrative example

Licensing an engineering & construction operation

Challenge
An engineering and construction firm was unsure which licences its activity required and risked delays to a major project.
My approach
I produced a clear licensing map for the activity and location, prepared every application, and followed each one through with the competent authorities.
Outcome
All required licences were secured, removing a key risk to the project timeline and allowing work to proceed.
Representation Illustrative example

Representing an investor unable to travel

Challenge
A foreign investor needed several formalities completed in Angola but was unable to travel to attend in person.
My approach
I advised on the correct power of attorney, formalised the authorisation, and represented the investor before the relevant authorities and counterparties — reporting transparently throughout.
Outcome
The formalities were completed on schedule without the investor needing to travel, with a full record of every action taken.
Company formation Illustrative example

Opening an Angolan company for a foreign group

Challenge
An overseas group wanted to establish a wholly-owned subsidiary in Angola but was unfamiliar with the local incorporation process, the documentation expected by the notary, and the registration steps that follow.
My approach
I mapped the full incorporation route, drafted and reviewed the articles of association and the company's object and binding clauses, assembled the notarial dossier, and carried the process through the commercial registry and the tax authority.
Outcome
The company was incorporated and fully registered, ready to trade and to begin recruiting, with every founding document held on file.
Immigration Illustrative example

Work visas and residence permits for expatriate staff

Challenge
A client needed to bring in several expatriate specialists, each requiring a favourable opinion, a work visa, and a residence permit — with little visibility on timing or requirements.
My approach
I prepared each application end to end, assembled the supporting documents, liaised with the immigration and labour authorities, and tracked every file to completion.
Outcome
The specialists obtained their authorisations and were able to take up their posts, with the client kept informed at each stage.
Labour & compliance Illustrative example

A skills-transfer and localisation plan

Challenge
A company employing expatriate technicians needed a structured plan to justify their presence and to demonstrate a credible commitment to training and replacing them with national staff over time.
My approach
I drafted a multi-year skills-transfer and localisation plan, setting out roles, milestones, and training commitments in a form designed to satisfy the labour authorities.
Outcome
The client had a defensible, well-documented plan to support its expatriate authorisations and to guide its recruitment and training over the period.
Immigration Illustrative example

Temporary entry for technical-assistance personnel

Challenge
A retailer required foreign refrigeration technicians to enter Angola briefly for warranty, maintenance, and technical-assistance work — a short engagement that did not fit a standard work visa.
My approach
I prepared a reasoned submission to the competent authority explaining the technical and warranty grounds and requesting authorisation for the temporary entry.
Outcome
The technicians were able to carry out the assistance work within the intended timeframe, with the request properly recorded.
Corporate Illustrative example

Corporate restructuring of a group subsidiary

Challenge
A group needed to restructure one of its Angolan subsidiaries — a change of name, transfer of shareholdings, and change of management — with documents originating in more than one jurisdiction.
My approach
I prepared the resolutions, the share transfer instruments, and the management changes; coordinated consular legalisation and translation of the foreign documents; and arranged validation by the notary before submission.
Outcome
The restructuring documents were accepted and the changes registered, with the corporate record kept consistent across every jurisdiction involved.
Labour & compliance Illustrative example

Labour licensing for a workforce-supply business

Challenge
A company providing temporary workforce services needed the labour and tax registrations that its activity requires, together with an object and binding clause appropriate to the sector.
My approach
I reviewed the company's object and binding clauses, prepared the labour, social-security, and tax registrations, and organised the supporting dossier for submission.
Outcome
The business obtained the registrations it needed to operate within the applicable labour framework.
Translation Illustrative example

Certified Portuguese–English translation for official use

Challenge
A client needed legal and personal documents — contracts, certificates, criminal records, and corporate papers — translated between Portuguese and English for submission to notaries, ministries, and consulates.
My approach
I produced accurate, professionally formatted translations and arranged the notarial and Ministry of Foreign Affairs certifications required for official acceptance.
Outcome
The documents were accepted by the receiving authorities without translation-related objections.
Investment Illustrative example

A business plan to attract investment partners

Challenge
An entrepreneur wanted to attract capital partners to a new venture but needed a clear, credible business plan to present to prospective investors.
My approach
I worked with the client to structure the concept, set out the commercial rationale and operating model, and present it as a formal, investor-ready document.
Outcome
The client had a polished business plan suitable for approaching prospective partners and presenting the opportunity with confidence.
